Building the Emma Willard School
Mount Ida is no Mountain |
After a generous donation from Olivia Sage in 1907, the school was able to purchase this plot of land atop Mount Ida. Speaking in geologic terms, Mount Ida is no mountain, as a mountain is usually classified as such if it rises more than 1,000 feet (300 meters) above the surrounding landscape. Mount Ida is actually a hill atop the valley which the Hudson River cut in the landscape over thousands of years.
